reserva EL TORÓN
santuario de vida y belleza natural
Where the jungle meets the lagoon.
In the south of the Mexican Caribbean, where jungle and freshwater move in gentle harmony, the Lagoon of Seven Colors unfolds as one of the few places where nature still sets the pace. Within this remarkable landscape, La Valise Bacalar is more than a hotel; it is a retreat deeply connected to its surroundings, set across 36 hectares of protected jungle on the shores of the lagoon.
ritmo y equilibrio

Beneath the surface lives the lagoon's quietest wonder: stromatolites, gentle formations kin to the earliest life on Earth. They have grown here undisturbed for thousands of years, and to share the water with them is a rare and moving privilege, a living link to the planet's first breath.
Here the landscape shifts with the light rather than the seasons. As the sun moves, the lagoon travels through its many shades of blue as the water deepens, while the jungle holds its constant green. Morning, afternoon and dusk become a shared stage where life unfolds naturally, revealing itself slowly, detail by detail.
The architecture, imagined by Frida Escobedo, rises lightly above the jungle floor, letting water flow and vegetation grow beneath, its timber structures wrapped in wooden screens that filter light and air. Every volume stands among the existing trees, every material was chosen to age with the forest, and most of the site was simply left untouched. Built in timber and lifted above the soil, the retreat touches the ground gently, so the jungle and the lagoon remain the protagonists.

más allá del diseño
Un Compromiso con La Sustentabilidad
En La Valise Mazunte, cada chosen conservation over mass development, and La Valise Bacalar was conceived to honor that choice. Ours is a regenerative approach: most of the land left untouched, gardens tended by hand and the lagoon cared for as the living heart of the place. Nature here is not a backdrop but a living value, and luxury is measured by what is preserved: not taken from the land, but given back to it.

INSPIRACIÓN DE DISEÑO
Ventilación y Materiales Naturales
Inspirado en las tradiciones vernáculas regionales, el diseño hace hincapié en la ventilación cruzada y los materiales naturales que requieren un mantenimiento mínimo, breathe in balance with its surroundings. Wooden screens filter the sun and invite the breeze, walkways trace their way between the existing trees rather than through them, and the architecture dissolves into the jungle's natural colors and forms, so that moving through the property feels less like visiting a hotel and more like walking through the jungle it protects.
